Travel Ideas for Vampire Fans

Some people only want a quiet beach or a good restaurant when they go on vacation. But many others view their vacation as a chance to make a pilgrimage to destinations that have special meaning for them. A Harry Potter fan might travel to London, while a Star Wars fan might travel to filming locations in Tunisia.

So what do you do if youre totally obsessed with vampire movies and novels? Well, there are a number of vacation destinations that would be right up your alley!

1. Transylvania

Transylvania is home to fictional vampire Count Dracula and the infamous tyrant Vlad the Impaler (the inspiration for much of the vampire legend). Boasting both foreboding castles and stunning landscapes, Transylvania is located in the central part of Romania. One caveat: many of the vampire-themed excursions in the area can come off as a bit cheesy or touristy (if the Transylvania episode of Anthony Bourdains No Reservations can be believed.)

2. Forks, Washington

If your taste in vampires runs more to the sparkly, then head to Washington State. Stephanie Meyer set her Twilight novels in Forks, and the forests and beaches of Forks will appeal to fans of the books. Do note, however, that the films were not made in Forks. Make sure your trip is in mid-September, when the Forks locals throw a shindig in honor of Bella Swans birthday!

3. New Orleans

Home to vampire writer Anne Rice and the fictional vampire Lestat, New Orleans has a great occult feel. If you love Anne Rices style of vampires best of all, then New Orleans should be on your travel bucket list.

4. Dublin

When you think of vampires, Ireland is hardly the first place you think of. And yet, it was the home of Dracula author Bram Stoker. You could visit the Lyceum Theatre where he worked, or visit his home in Kildare Street, or see his ashes on display at Golders Green.
