As the summer heat begins to die down and the cool fall weather starts rolling in, there couldnt be a better time to plan a trip to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, commonly referred to as Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Conveniently located in southeastern Pennsylvania, it is less than a 3-hour drive from several major cities, including New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. If you are looking for a quiet place to unwind, shop, enjoy delicious fresh food, and take in beautiful scenery, give the Kitchen Kettle Village a try.
What began as a farfetched idea for a family to start their own jelly business right out of their garage has now flourished into a tourist hotspot where you can stock your pantry with an amazing array of delicious, homemade goodies. Kitchen Kettle Village is located in the heart of beautiful Amish country, where many of the products and items available for purchase were grown or made just down the road. There you will find everything from freshly made ice cream and kettle corn to homemade candles, jams, baked goods, and quilts. In addition to the abundance of homegrown produce and locally made merchandise, visitors will also find a variety of high quality, designer brands such as Brighton Collectibles, Pandora jewelry and Vera Bradley.
Kitchen Kettle Village is not only appealing to adults, but they offer great activities for families with children as well. The horse-drawn carriage rides through Lancaster County farmland offer entertainment for little ones and picturesque views of local countryside. In addition to the fun, visitors of all ages will have a chance at sampling the freshly made fudge, cookies and countless canned products, while the children visit a miniature barnyard to get an up-close look at sheep, chickens, pigs and goats. The Village even offers pony rides and a great playground for children to run freely and safely while burning off all those sweets.
Visiting Kitchen Kettle Village in the fall is one of my familys favorite activities. Whether it is just a quick day trip to stock up on some much needed pantry items or a weekend getaway, there are always new things to try and shops to visit. It is the perfect place to unwind and spend quality time with your family.
